It all started with a joyfull event called: Ragnarok. An event where they danced around threes whilest holding ribbons and threw stones as far as they could. After this event there was this one big fellow; Harikrisnja. He was the only one standing as all others weren’t able to get up of the ground. And so he claimed himself to be the superviser of the world. One day he stood high in his ivory tower and spoke down the people; “I had a dream...”as he started his speech;”A dove dove down to me and told me about the end of the world. Their will be a massive wave of dinosaurs. I will survive this terror because you all will build me a gigantic horse. When the time comes I’ll use the horse to my rescue. You will build me that horse out of concreet and you will start now!” And the horse was build up. After some time Harikrisnja came riding down from his tower on his golden chariot with his two big wolfs next to him, Adam and Eve. “Eureka! Eureka! Where in goths name are thou, Eureka!”screamed Harikrisnja. Eureka stepped forward. “It is time, where is the horse?” he asked. Eureka handed him the concreet horse. Big H. (that’s what his friends used to call him) was so pleased with the result he gave the people 13 plagues. They would celebrate his gift each day except on Sundays, because then they had a day off and all went to the parc. And so the world turned and turned again. And one day indeed, just like the dove told him, the dinosaurs came. They all started to wave. And so Big H. jumped on his horse, but surprisingly enough it sank to the ocean floor. Big H. who never learned how to swim, as he didn’t know the goddess Aphrodite was doomed to stay on the bottom of the ocean. He was extremly angry. (and when he got angry he could shoot lightning bolts from his arse...arsenal of slingshots some dude David gave him) He cursed Eureka with the most awefull of curses. Each day a volture would come over and picked at his liver...livercolored chinawear. Never to be able to have tea-time ever again. But Big H. was inventive and claimed the oceanfloor as his own and he started his own land: Babylon he called it. He also had a capitol Babylon City or New Babylon. On a dark day in Babylon a meremaid was born out of a cabbish. But it wasn’t a normal meremaid like everyone else. It was stronger and bigger then every other meremaid. His parents Raa and Bouddha were very proud of him. What do you like least about EQ2? Same thing that I like least about all MMOs. Raiding. I left EQ1 becuase the content became so thoroughly raid-based you couldn't hardly do anything else. SWG didn't have any raiding, really. SWG just fell apart. So I guess raiding is what I dislike about 'almost all' mmos and not 'all' of them.

I think it began in the 1980s with the boom of the yuppie culture, where young entrepeneurs earning a lot of money became a key target group for advertising and new trendy merchandise. Ok, as my fellow Yorkshireman has done his part for the guild i feel now is the time for me to say hello....
I played EQ2 way back in the olden days as Quelleren the Mighty Conjurer. Since then i've played a bit of WOW and right now i'm happily playing Vanguard.

At around 2000 BC, following the Sumerian revival under Ur-III, Semitic Amorites from west of the Euphrates River gained control over most of Mesopotamia. During the first centuries of their rule, Mesopotamia was not unified, and the most powerful city state was Isin. Some Amorites eventually formed a monarchical government in the city-state of Babylon, which would ultimately take over the Amorite kingdoms and form the first Babylonian empire. The three centuries of their rule are known as the Old Babylonian Period.
The Babylonians engaged in regular trade and influence with Western city-states; with Babylonian officials and troops passing to Syria and Canaan. Further, "Amorite" colonists were established in Babylonia for the purposes of trade.
The city of Babylon was given hegemony over Mesopotamia by their sixth ruler, Hammurabi (1780–1750 BC; dates highly uncertain). He was a very efficient ruler, writing an influential law code, Hammurabi's Code and giving the region stability after turbulent times, thereby transforming it into the central power of Mesopotamia.
Babylonian beliefs held the king as an agent of Marduk, and the city of Babylon as a "holy city" where any legitimate ruler of Mesopotamia had to be crowned. A natural development was the establishment of a bureaucracy, with taxation and centralized government, to allow the king to exert his control.
A great literary revival followed the recovery of Babylonian independence. One of the most important works of this "First Dynasty of Babylon", as it was called by the native historians, was the compilation of a code of laws. This was made by order of Hammurabi after the expulsion of the Elamites and the settlement of his kingdom. In 1901, a copy of the Code of Hammurabi was discovered by J. De Morgan and V. Scheil at Susa, where it had been taken as plunder. That copy is now in the Louvre.
The Babylonian monarchy's western connections remained strong for quite some time. An Amorite named Abi-ramu or Abram was the father of a witness to a deed dated to the reign of Hammurabi's grandfather; Ammi-Ditana, great-grandson of Hammurabi, still titled himself "king of the land of the Amorites". Ammi-Ditana's father and son also bore Canaanite names: Abi-Eshuh and Ammisaduqa.
The armies of Babylonia were well-disciplined, and they conquered the city-states of Isin, Elam, and Uruk, and the strong Kingdom of Mari. The rule of Babylon was even obeyed as far as the shores of the Mediterranean. But Mesopotamia had no clear boundaries, making it vulnerable to attack. Trade and culture thrived for 150 years, until the fall of Babylon in 1595 BC.

The 14th king of the dynasty was Samsu-Ditana, son of Ammisaduqa. He was overthrown following the sack of Babylon in 1595 BC by the Hittite king Mursili I, and Babylonia was turned over to the Kassites (Kossaeans) from the mountains of Iran, with whom Samsu-Iluna had already come into conflict in his 6th year. The Kassite dynasty was founded by Kandis or Gandash of Mari. The Kassites renamed Babylon "Kar-Duniash", and their rule lasted for 576 years. With this foreign dominion — that offers a striking analogy to the contemporary rule of the Hyksos in ancient Egypt — Babylonia lost its empire over western Asia. The high-priests of Ashur made themselves kings of Assyria. Most divine attributes ascribed to the Semitic kings of Babylonia disappeared at this time; the title of "god" was never given to a Kassite sovereign. However, Babylon continued to be the capital of the kingdom and the 'holy' city of western Asia, where the priests were all-powerful, and the only place where the right to inheritance of the old Babylonian empire could be conferred.

Through the centuries of Assyrian domination, Babylonia enjoyed a prominent status, or revolted at the slightest indication that it did not. However, the Assyrians always managed to restore Babylonian loyalty, whether through granting of increased privileges, or militarily. That finally changed in 627 BC with the death of the last strong Assyrian ruler, Ashurbanipal, and Babylonia rebelled under Nabopolassar the Chaldean the following year. With help from the Medes, Nineveh was sacked in 612, and the seat of empire was again transferred to Babylonia.
Nabopolassar was followed by his son Nebuchadnezzar II, whose reign of 43 years made Babylon once more the mistress of the civilized world, including the conquering of Phoenicia in 585 BC.[1] Only a small fragment of his annals has been discovered, relating to his invasion of Egypt in 567 BC, and referring to "Phut of the Ionians".
Of the reign of the last Babylonian king, Nabonidus (Nabu-na'id), and the conquest of Babylonia by Cyrus, there is a fair amount of information available. This is chiefly derived from a chronological tablet containing the annals of Nabonidus, supplemented by another inscription of Nabonidus where he recounts his restoration of the temple of the Moon-god at Harran; as well as by a proclamation of Cyrus issued shortly after his formal recognition as king of Babylonia. It was in the sixth year of Nabonidus (549 BC) that Cyrus, the Achaemenid Persian "king of Anshan" in Elam, revolted against his suzerain Astyages, "king of the Manda" or Medes, at Ecbatana. Astyages' army betrayed him to his enemy, and Cyrus established himself at Ecbatana, thus putting an end to the empire of the Medes. Three years later Cyrus had become king of all Persia, and was engaged in a campaign in the north of Mesopotamia. Meanwhile, Nabonidus had established a camp in the desert, near the southern frontier of his kingdom, leaving his son Belshazzar (Belsharutsur) in command of the army.
In 539 BC Cyrus invaded Babylonia. A battle was fought at Opis in the month of June, where the Babylonians were defeated; and immediately afterwards Sippara surrendered to the invader. Nabonidus fled to Babylon, where he was pursued by Gobryas, and on the 16th of Tammuz, two days after the capture of Sippara, "the soldiers of Cyrus entered Babylon without fighting." Nabonidus was dragged from his hiding-place, where the services continued without interruption. Cyrus did not arrive until the 3rd of Marchesvan (October), Gobryas having acted for him in his absence. Gobryas was now made governor of the province of Babylon, and a few days afterwards the son of Nabonidus died. A public mourning followed, lasting six days, and Cambyses accompanied the corpse to the tomb.
Cyrus now claimed to be the legitimate successor of the ancient Babylonian kings and the avenger of Bel-Marduk, who was assumed to be wrathful at the impiety of Nabonidus in removing the images of the local gods from their ancestral shrines, to his capital Babylon. Nabonidus, in fact, had excited a strong feeling against himself by attempting to centralize the religion of Babylonia in the temple of Merodach (Marduk) at Babylon, and while he had thus alienated the local priesthoods, the military party despised him on account of his antiquarian tastes. He seems to have left the defense of his kingdom to others, occupying himself with the more congenial work of excavating the foundation records of the temples and determining the dates of their builders.
The invasion of Babylonia by Cyrus was doubtless facilitated by the existence of a disaffected party in the state, as well as by the presence of foreign forced exiles like the Jews, who had been planted in the midst of the country. One of the first acts of Cyrus accordingly was to allow these exiles to return to their own homes, carrying with them the images of their gods and their sacred vessels. The permission to do so was embodied in a proclamation, whereby the conqueror endeavored to justify his claim to the Babylonian throne. The feeling was still strong that none had a right to rule over western Asia until he had been consecrated to the office by Bel and his priests; and accordingly, Cyrus henceforth assumed the imperial title of "King of Babylon."
A year before Cyrus' death, in 529 BC, he elevated his son Cambyses II in the government, making him king of Babylon, while he reserved for himself the fuller title of "king of the (other) provinces" of the empire. It was only when Darius Hystaspis acquired the Persian throne and ruled it as a representative of the Zoroastrian religion, that the old tradition was broken and the claim of Babylon to confer legitimacy on the rulers of western Asia ceased to be acknowledged.
Immediately after Darius seized Persia, Babylonia briefly recovered its independence under Nidinta-Bel, who took the name of Nebuchadnezzar III, and reigned from October 521 BC to August 520 BC, when Darius took the city by storm. A few years later, probably 514 BC, Babylon again revolted under Arakha; on this occasion, after its capture by the Persians, the walls were partly destroyed. E-Saggila, the great temple of Bel, however, still continued to be kept in repair and to be a center of Babylonian patriotism, until at last the foundation of Seleucia diverted the population to the new capital of Babylonia and the ruins of the old city became a quarry for the builders of the new seat of government.

The Babylonian story i can't but i can tell a story even better of a great team of adventures in the Norath World, its call The Shadow Wind Empire
Once upon the time
History of part of founders (those writing more often) of this gaming community has been started in early 90s when three RL friends (Almyr, Arnalix and Genagen) started to play Holly Mission MUD game. It was real fun - especially from point of view that it was only one serious use for university DRS unix stations (one x86 processor was powering 30 unix terminals).
We liked this game and especially Arnalix played it a lot - as much as he was promoted to GM at the end. He was preparing his own in-game adventure inspired by Herbert's Dune novel – but this extension was not published to live system because other GMs thought that Dune environment does not fit to Holly Mission environment even this adventure was fully finished and tested.
Genagen was playing summoner called Edmund (inspired by Black Adder BBC serie). Arnalix was playing monk followed by his pink panther fellow. Almyr spent his time by playing some sort of wizard I hope.
Next online game we played together was Ultima Online. The most hardcore player out of our small group was… Arnalix – again. Almyr was played very introvert fisherman’s avatar and we were able to see for the first time his main online profile – peaceful crafter/gatherer. I was playing this game only a little – I did not have good internet connection at home during these days. Hence only one think I can remember from this game is fact: “I really HATE MINING”.
Next game in the row was Everquest 1 which was played AFAIK only by Arnalix out of our small group of three friends. He played wizard and during years he enjoyed this game a lot and he became international raid leader - but a lot of info about this period we got only from Arnalix’s story telling – hence do not take it serious.
SWG and CzA
Real beginning of Shadow Wind founders online gamming community was found in Star Wars Galaxies SOE online game built on SW license. We started to play this game immediately when it was lunched and – it was a pain let say. Tons of bugs, almost no content and every Live Update were promising that next one made good game out of SWG for sure. We were waiting almost 2 years for corrections but when Everquest 2 was launched we move to this game hoping for very good game based on its predecessor Everquest 1.
To be righteous it is necessary to say that not everything was bad in SWG. All social concepts as well as concept of crafting, mining and trading was very good and in my humble opinion in these days it was the best crafting ever seen in MMORPG games. Also concepts of cities and player housings were excellent ideas.
Our guild was called Czech Alliance because of we were gathering czech and slovak players only and we met here a lot of people that started to be core of our community: Popbob, Abadon, Trisania, Filc and many others. Guild was lead by Genagen and our city was called Ankh (+3664 +5748 near POI „Jedi Temple Ruins“, level 4) with his mayor Atriane (Arnalix’s alt). We were really proud of this city and Arnalix proved his social skills again.
At the moment this guild is almost dead because czech/slovak community is playing on the empire side and CzA was Rebel/neutral guild only.
Also SWG changed a lot in past 2 years and everything I have wrote here is no more valid so keep it as remembrance of an old lizzard
Bith of Shadow Wind
When we moved to Everquest 2 we were thinking about international guild from the real beginning. National concept was not seen as best in SWG for various reasons. Nationality as basic qualification criteria for selecting friends is not such a great idea when you think about it. So we have chosen indifferent name with little “Freeport” connotation – hence Shadow Wind was born. We have started as very small guild where everyone knows each other. Founders were following:

Arnalix
Eskel
Genagen
Mraven
Popbob
Then later that day (well that is how you loose founders position), joined the guild also the guys like Vokoun aka Azmelid, Vacanc, Akia and Trisania.
We stated the guild will be international, we accept people we feel good with, regardless of their nationality or playing style or playing quality. We look for friends and we mean it.
Although at the beginning it was just a formal statement and also we all agreed we fit ourselves well in this concept, later it turned to work out. Original guild pages were located at www.ArGeAl.org (see how self oriented some of us were).
There was quite a number of people coming and leaving over the time, some sticked with us till present time and we hope even in the future as friends regardless of online gaming.
There are several points in that process to be remembered, since these crafted face of Shadow Wind significant positive way. In order as those happened....
Going international
We stated we are international guild. However until this point with some minor exceptions it was not totaly reality, but then we met ..... yes, we met guys from Portuguese guild called Lvsitania. We felt in love with them and agreed on merger under name Shadow Wind, asigning Kure as one of three guild leaders, some others as officers to respect proportion of players. This I would personaly see as the beginning of real Shadow Wind as you might know it today. We got lucky and all the bastards that joined us and forced us to speak english or portuguese in guild chat later bacome our friends in real. We speak about names like Scatha, Kerothar, Komodo, Kure, Thanque, Rhaiz, each one of them great supporters of Shadow Wind community all the way through, their names to be written in stone.
Then the guild merged with several groups of players from various guilds, one under lead of Ghorr from Russia, names like Duremar and Torgoffka to be remembered, other under lead of Nubo from guild Lords of Chaos. Later Nubo prooved his great heart and dedication to support community and became guild leader shaping the guild style as well. I am not sure how Ibias, Eno, Futtlur, Azga, Trollis and others joind. I just know we are happy to know them.
Then other great names were joining and leaving, becoming friends over internet, some of them even wedding each other at the end (see Hedswill and Sunset story). As some more players commit to this article I am sure we will learn out more about whole bunch of great guys.
Then The Houses concept came, some of them were Bright, some of them were Lame, some of them were even Chaotic. All are friends, competetive, with sense of humour.
Raiding
We have started with raiding in T5 approximately six moths after the game launch in cooperation with czech guilds Rytiri lva and MdK. We were really lame from the point of raiding view. After a few weeks in this coalition Genagen and Arnalix slowly started to organize this raiding force and raids. We have created rules, dkp and even we were still lame – we get some successes. One of the biggest was finishing prismatic quests series before T6 coming.
Serious raiding we started at the beginning of T6 when more complex raiding zones raised and we discovered that our raid leading should change from intuitive way to more analytical one. Also Shadow Wind started to be self-sufficient in the question of raiding.
Before T7 as one of few guilds we were able to finish very hard live event while creating new portals to Kingdom of Sky data disk. Even we were underestimate theoretical study before we chosen Antonica zone it was great feeling when summoned dragon after almost three days of hard work was killed and portal in Antonica was set.
In T7 we started raiding very hardly and we move into one of the most successful raiding guild on Runnyeye. We were the fourth guild finished The Laboratory of Lord Vyemm zone. As well as we were finished Lyceum of Abhorrence very early.

We decided not to keep the raiding know-how to ourself as most of the alike guilds did, but to share it with other players free for all.
We have created and published detailed walkthroughs about Spirit of the Lost and The Court of Al'Afaz zones and we were published it on our guild pages as well as it was re-published by other EQ2 sites.
We have continued in this work because it was our joy and players welcomed our articles about raiding a raiding zones walkthrough. At some point the bandwidth took down our guild pages and it led in launch of RaidWiki portal that is handling as well as our raiding knowledge as well as contribution of other players participated on our project.
At the same time we launched guild pages on www.shadow-wind.org, original verson was taken down by hackers (great job) and we also changed the style to wiki, which you see now.
Darker times
Concept of our guild was unique in my opinion. We were guild of causal players. We were not pro players as Xanadu or other pro guilds are – but we were able to do almost the same things as they did.
Around June/2006 (after one and half of very successful existence of Shadow Wind guild) a lot of things happened. A few guild members organized around 20 SW members left in conditions that I personally feel as very unfriendly – but don’t expect from me dispassionateness.
People that left SW started new pro-raiding guild, they did not make it successful and in another three weeks they partially left to other guilds (mainly Xanadu) or they stopped playing.
Shadow Wind after this act sticks together and guild spirits was raised very high. However this was perhaps worst point in the history of guild. Hopefully we have learned our lesson.
Going multi-game
Over the time some players left for various reasons like in real lack of time, lost of interest into EverQuest, drafted by new games coming. The concept however changed to gaming community of players that know each other and feel good about playing togather other games as well.
